CAP Management Services

The Arc of North Carolina, in association with some local chapters of The Arc, partners with individuals and families to plan for their home support needs and their community support needs.

We work with individuals who have the following funding sources:

CAP/MR-DD
MR/MI
PRIVATE PAY
LOCAL SCHOOL FUNDS

Essentially, you would choose The Arc of North Carolina much like you would choose any traditional provider for your services.

You would need to provide us with information about the funding available for your supports. Typically, this would be a copy of your Cost Summary which your Case Manager can provide to you.

Then we sit down with you and discuss the roles and responsibilities that you and The Arc of NC will manage together. We may discuss such things as:

• how often and when staff will work
• what you wish staff to be paid
• what training is necessary
• how involved you want us to be in recruiting and hiring, etc.

Next, we will assist you in developing a job description for your support staff, utilizing an outline we provide. Once the job description is developed, the recruiting process begins!

Many people like to be very involved in choosing their own staff. They may already know people who would like to provide their support services, or they may want to be involved in advertising for and interviewing new workers. We will support you in this process and encourage you to take an active role.

Once staff are identified, The Arc of NC completes all the necessary background checks and completes all required and desired training. Staff are given a copy of the unique job description. They sign a support agreement outlining the specifics of the job.

After hiring, the family provides daily management of the staff schedule. We offer training and support to assist you in becoming a good manager for your staff. Clinical supervision of staff and review of required documentation remains the responsibility of The Arc of NC.

In summary, The Arc of North Carolina is committed to assisting you with achieving your desired quality of life by giving you optimal control of the supports and services you receive.

• Families help find and interview their own staff.
• Families help develop job descriptions based on their individual needs.
• We show families where their allocated money goes. We develop a Personal Budget for each family using a spreadsheet. Each family receives a monthly statement of income and expenses.
• The family provides daily scheduling and management of staff.
• The process is designed to shift control to the family. There are no secrets.
